Money Unclaimed

Thank you for visiting nccash.com to learn more about how we’re putting the state’s unclaimed property program to work for you. We have been aggressive about collecting money owed to North Carolinians. Since 2000, we have doubled the amount of money coming into the fund, which is now more than $500 million.

How NCCash Opens Doors for North Carolina
We are proud of how we’ve grown this fund because the interest earned is sent to the State Education Assistance Authority and helps 50,000 North Carolinians afford college each year. College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) is a free service provided by the Authority, College Foundation, Inc. and Pathways of North Carolina to help plan, apply and pay for college. As you know, today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, and an educated workforce is crucial to our state’s economic prosperity. That is why there can be no better investment in our state’s future than education.

Safeguarding Your Assets
The $500 million in our unclaimed cash program comes from financial institutions, insurance companies, businesses and government agencies in the form of wages, utility deposits and insurance policy proceeds. These are just a few of the 100 types of property reclaimed every day by our agency. By law, these funds are escheated, or turned over, to our agency for safekeeping. As new funds are added, we update our website which means that your name could be listed right now.

The Next Step is Up to You
If money is owed to you, it’s yours whenever you want it. Reclaiming your money is very simple. First, enter your name in the boxes below to see if money is owed to you. If there is a match, fill out a claim form and send it in with the required documentation. If you need assistance, please call 919-508-1000 and select option 1. After you have completed the claim form and provided the necessary documentation, you should receive your money in 4-6 weeks. Click here to view the list of accepted documentation.

Invest in Your Family
Many of you who have reclaimed funds use them to meet important family needs such as health care, debt reduction and education. As your Treasurer, I encourage you to continue to invest these funds wisely and to explore valuable savings opportunities that will help your family. To assist you, we have updated our website to include links to CFNC, the comprehensive college information service and to North Carolina's 529 Plan, a tax-free savings plan. Please also visit North Carolina Saves, a new program sponsored by our agency that offers free resources on savings and wealth creation. I also encourage you to consult experts at your local financial institutions who can discuss other options suited to your individual needs.

Thank you for your interest in how NCCash is opening doors of opportunity for you and your family.
